Daniel: thats per person for the whole shebang. I assume at the end of the con when we have to pay the hotel upon checkout

Each hotel has different policies, but on the day you reserve your room a non refundable one nights stay (plus the cities 14% tax rate) will be charged to your credit card.
Just IMO, the Omni is a fair walk away. The Doubletree is right next to the main con hotel so it isn't a hike away. Just my 2 cents ^^
